The SDG-Challenge is a global initiative that connects students and organisations in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaborative effort focuses on addressing climate change and reducing inequalities through innovative solutions.
South African Universities are paired with industry-leading organisations to tackle specific sustainability challenges. Using a blended approach of Design and Systems Thinking, participating teams develop implementable and feasible solutions that contribute to the UN’s sustainable development agenda and National Development Plan. We are cultivating the next generation of African leaders with sustainability in mind, empowering youth with the skills, knowledge, and networks to drive meaningful change.
The programme culminates in a final event where teams present their solutions to a panel of industry experts and thought leaders. The team demonstrating the highest potential for sustainable impact will be recognised as the winner. This programme has been driving impact and fostering partnerships between academic institutions, and the private and public sectors since 2022.
“The SDG Challenge SA is a credible way of creating awareness of the SDGs and driving private sector participation. It is refreshing to collaborate with the students on the SDG challenge. The future we want is theirs and they will carry the torch forward.”
